People have always kept alpacas for their high-quality wool. Clothing made of alpaca wool is lightweight but very warm, and it is more water- and fire-resistant compared to wool made of other animals’ fur. This is because alpacas have adapted to high mountain climates, so their fur has developed to keep them comfortable in extreme weather. Interestingly, alpaca wool not only keeps people warm in winter but also cools them down in hot weather.
