The seventh month of the lunar calendar is called Ghost Month in Chinese culture. During this time, many Taoists and Buddhists believe that the gates separating the living from the dead are opened, and ghosts are able to wander freely in our world. While the exact dates change from year to year, Ghost Month usually begins in mid-August and ends in mid-September. With so many spirits wandering around, Ghost Month is considered a dangerous time. People tend to be extra careful and take many precautions to prevent misfortune from falling upon them.
