For many cultures around the world, owls are a source of inspiration for legends and folklore. Some cultures view owls as guardians of the night, and when owls hoot, the sounds keep evil away. Others think of owls as sacred. In Australia, some native tribes believe that the souls of women live inside owls. Many other cultures also think that people become owls when they die. However, it is also said that owls are a sign of death or misfortune.

 對世界各地的許多文化來說，貓頭鷹是許多傳說和民俗的靈感來源。有些文化將貓頭鷹視為夜晚的守護者，當貓頭鷹叫時，此聲音可以驅趕邪靈。其他文化則認為貓頭鷹是神聖的。在澳洲，一些原住民部落相信女人的靈魂住在貓頭鷹的體內。許多其他文化也認為人死後會變成貓頭鷹。然而，也有人說貓頭鷹是死亡或不幸的徵兆。
