In 2001, Cassia fistula Linn was officially named Thailand’s national flower. This bright yellow flower grows on trees that are named Cassia fistula (C. fistula). You can see them throughout the country and in several nearby nations as well. Some people call the plant golden shower tree because the flowers grow in small groups and fall gently from branches like raindrops. C. fistula is also known as Ratchaphruek, which translates to “royal tree.”
