There is a special moment in everyone’s life when they receive their first eye exam and discover whether or not they will need to wear glasses. Some people feel relieved to learn that their vision is good. For others, it marks the beginning of life with glasses, which provide clear vision and make everyday tasks much easier. In the past, doctors did not always have an effective method for testing their patients’ vision. The current system was developed around the time of the Industrial Revolution, when more and more people started working in factories. Many workers found that their vision was sufficient for tasks at home but not sharp enough to perform factory work, which required precision.
