Richard Powers’ novel Bewilderment is a touching story about love and nature. It takes place in the near future when the Earth’s environment is badly damaged. The main character, Theo Byrne, is an astrobiologist who searches for signs of life in the universe. His wife has recently passed away, and he is left to care for his nine-year-old son, Robin, on his own. Robin is an intelligent boy with a remarkable memory. His favorite hobby is painting pictures of animals that are going extinct.
