　　Since the beginnings of theater and film, racial stereotypes have been common in Western countries. Yellowface is the practice in which white actors are made to look Asian by using theatrical makeup. Worse than the makeup itself, portrayals of Asian people were generally negative. This led to the unfriendly treatment of minorities, especially in the United States. In the early days of Hollywood, most Asian actors could only play supporting roles that were neither positive nor attractive.

　　自從戲劇和電影出現以來，種族刻板印象在西方國家就很常見。黃臉是指白人演員透過戲劇妝效讓自己看起來像亞洲人的做法。比化妝本身更糟糕的是，對亞洲人的描繪普遍是負面的。這導致了少數族裔受到不友善的對待，尤其是在美國。在好萊塢早期，大部分亞洲演員只能扮演既不正面又沒有吸引力的配角。
