Many crossword puzzles use black-and-white boxes to show people where to write the words. They are usually set up in a grid, with 15 squares by 15 squares. This is called a blocked grid. In a typical puzzle, the clues provided are often definitions of the words. If the clues for the crossword puzzle are word puzzles themselves, it is a cryptic crossword. It can take a long time for players to figure out the answers to these challenging crossword puzzles.
