Many children have an item that they love. This item can be a blanket, pillow, stuffed animal, or any other soft object. This type of item is called a comfort object. Perhaps the most common kind of comfort object is a security blanket. Security blankets are often small, soft blankets that children take with them wherever they go. Many children can’t sleep without their security blankets or other comfort objects. Comfort objects are also called transitional objects.
