Every year around Halloween, people across the world carve spooky, grinning faces into pumpkins and then place a light inside to create jack-o’-lanterns. This tradition has a history that goes back hundreds of years, and it all started in Ireland with the story of Stingy Jack. The story goes like this: Stingy Jack came across the Devil and tricked him by trapping him with a cross. Before letting the Devil go, Stingy Jack made him promise not to take his soul.
